So, I am launching new endevours into programming on linux. I have anjunta installed and running. I started going through the tutorial ( http://writelinux.com/glade/) and I am having some problems getting the glade stuff over to the main program. I get my Gnome C project created ok. Then I click File > New > Glade file. Then I create a new window and stick a button on it. Then, on the signals tab of the properties for the button, I select on_button1_clicked. Cool. Now what? The tutorial refers to an add button and ok buttons that I don't seem to have. When I populate the signal handler, then build the project, nothing is added to the callbacks.c file. So, the button has a signal handler, but no new code. Another problem that I think is related. When I build my project, then run it from a terminal, I get a blank window.... no button. Any suggestions? I am running anjunta 2.1.1 on a Ubuntu Edgy Eft. (2.0.2would not do anything when I did File > New > Glade file, so it was suggested I try 2.1.1. Which actually does stuff.... but.... er... doh.) In version 2.02, I couldn't find the setting, and there is no help available. In version 1.24a, it seems to be a problem of importing the project, because when I set up a simple project, it works just fine. I guess I'll either try manually importing the project or including the library in the project and see how that works, or perhaps try and learn automake and do it by hand. That is really unhandy, when you are using google to search for solutions to problems, and even when I was trying to send you the error message above. Thanks for your work on Anjuta. I really like version 1, as it seems to work better for me, and has a manual. There is a dialog asking for configure parameters, and I suspect if I knew what I was doing with configure, I could specify the library somehow there. I didn't compile the GLADE plugin or the CVS plugin, but got the others. I don't get the problem wiht create_global_tags.sh now. I'm using Ubuntu 6.10, and Syanaptic installs 2.02. I had compiles 1.24a into /usr/local/. When I compiled 2.1.1 it overwrote 1.24a which seemed in the past to be the most usable version. I suppose I can switch by doing a sudo make install in 1.24a's directory. Is there an easy way to get 1.24a installed again simultaneously with 2.1.1? Thanks for the hints! Well, I admit that the documentation is not that great yet... For things that can be added using pkg-config you can use the dialog Project->Properties. Select a module and click "Add package" which will give you a list of availible libraries. For other libraries you want to link to you have to use the context menu of the project tab. Select your target (or the directory of the target, if you have multiple targets and want to use the same settings for all) and open the context menu. Choose "Properties": A dialog will popup with entries for nearly all compiler and linker options. Enter the options like you would pass them on the command line there. BTW, the devhelp crash bug you found should be fixed if you use a recent version of devhelp and your distribution provides correct mozilla binarie= s. To install anjuta-1.2.4 and 2.1.1 simultaneously you have to use a different prefix AFAIK. For example, my games almost always use the Allegro library, and to compile these, the Allegro development headers need to be available. Is there any way of modifying the configure file by means of the project dialogue without resorting to modifying the configure file itself through a text editor? Thanks! I've written a game which has a number of data files associated with it and as such I've included them as data files in the Anjuta project. However, when it creates the configure file, the build distribution installs by default the binaries to /usr/local/bin/game_name and the data files to /usr/local/share/game_name. This is all well and good until a user decides to pass --prefix to the configure script which makes programming in C++ to find the data files correctly a living nightmare. What I'd like to do is be able to install the binaries by default to /usr/local/games/game_name and the data files to /usr/local/games/game_name/data, just as I've done with the Windows ports of the game. As such, if the user enters ./configure --prefix=3D/tmp, then there's no problem. Is it possible to set these directories from the project configuration dialogue? 2. I'd like to be able to avoid having to build a distribution, unpack and run from there in a terminal every time I want to see if the package builds, installs and runs correctly. I know there's an install function within Anjuta, but I'm using Ubuntu (no root password) and although the Anjuta manual states that there is the possibility of setting either su or sudo within the build preferences, I see no such thing. Is it possible to configure Anjuta 1 to use sudo to install? Thanks! >> D P.S. Tony - the Allegro problem was sorted as simply as including AM_PATH_ALLEGRO(4.2.0) in the libraries dialogue - nothing more. You should export your datadir and libdir as preprocessor macros (passed with -DMY_DATA_DIR=3D$(datadir)). This way the user can savely use any prefix (and package maintainers will love you...) and you always find those files. You can have a look at the anjuta 2.0 configure.in file to see how this works (svn.gnome.org/svn/anjuta/trunk/configure.in). It is not configurable from the UI but I guess anjuta 2.0 automaticly export those but not for sure. >=20 > 2. I guess there should be some possibility to set sudo instead of su -c for the build command in the preferences but I haven't used 1.2 for so long that I am not sure. Go into your project directory and open up configure.in and have a look. This 'configure.in' file is the file that will generate environment type variables that will be available to you (and your user) during the compile of your program. This is where you can manually change the default locations of installed files. You can do other things like manually set the version number of your project. If you edit anything in this file, then it will be up to you, and not Anjuta, to keep it updated. You'll have to tell Anjuta not to overwrite the configure.in file ... so better to let Anjuta handle it. Anyway ... I'm betting that there is already a variable defined called: 'PACKAGE_DATA_DIR' in this file. Look at how configure.in handles this PACKAGE_DATA_DIR thing. All you have to do is use the variable 'PACKAGE_DATA_DIR' in your pre-processor area of your source code whenever you refer to a data file: #define GLADE_FILE PACKAGE_DATA_DIR"/XmainScript.glade" ... I use 'GLADE_FILE' later on in the program like so: /* LOAD IN GUI INTERFACE FROM GLADE XML FILE */ xml = glade_xml_new (GLADE_FILE, NULL, NULL); Have a look around in the configure.in file ... there may be other variables you can use in or pre-processor code. Also, the Makefile.am files are other sources of information about where things are going to be installed. If you edit a Makefile.am, then you'll need to tell Anjuta to not overwrite it. -- Tony Darryl LeCount wrote: > Hi everyone, > > Me again with another couple of daft questions (Anjuta 1, not 2). > > 1.
