Moin,
I've tried the option "Sort an artist's album by year, not title"
(Preferences-Source Specific-) several times over a
few weeks and always forgot to write this email: What is that option
supposed to do?
I've expected it to change the sorting in the library's album list, but
it definitely does nothing there. Am I missing the point or might this
be a bug?
Banshee 2.0.1 on ArchLinux.

It's actually only re-sorting the track list, not the album list.

I think its supposed to sort your music in /home/yourname/Music. Though I
found banshee to be rather chaotic in this regard be warned.

I'm trying to access my online class video lectures which are in an .mp4
format
http://warrington.ufl.edu/sb/mywcba/videolectures.asp#accessibletabscontent1306988813339
here . I've tried it on iTunes, and the rss feed works and iTunes asks for
my login information to download the files. When I put rss location into
Banshee (2.0), it reads the file and shows the latest episodes. I can't
download or watch the files at all. No error messages pop up, but the file
does not download or stream in Banshee.
Is this a known missing functionality in Banshee, or am I doing something
wrong?
I'd just like to put in my login information and watch my lectures on my
Linux computer without running iTunes.

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Banshee 2.0 for openSUSE 11.3 and there is no more icon
in the system tray. It shows a question mark icon instead.
I know this is a minor issue but it is seriously bugging me. I looked all
over the Web and I couldn't find anything helpful to figure out how to to
fix it.
Does anyone know where it is looking for the icon? I would be happy if I
could just copy the icon manually where it is missing...
Thanks for your help!

It looks like the podcast that you linked to may be password protected.
Unfortunately, Banshee doesn't currently support password protected
podcasts: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492900
I would assume that there is podcast software available for Linux that can
handle password protection, but I don't know any specific applications off
the top of my head, sorry, :(

There is https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524300 but it is
rather inactive. A referenced gstreamer bug shows recent activity so
maybe there's some hope.
I guess banshee won't support it if gstreamer doesn't. (?)

I'm running Arch linux, and I'm using the latest Banshee 2.1 (because of the
drop of HAL dependencies which is nice). The problem is when i plug in my
ipod, start up banshee, my ipod doesn't show up. I can see it (unmounted)
in nautilus and dolphin, and I can mount them in those file managers, but
not in Banshee. Only when I kill Banshee, mount the ipod in Nautilus, and
re open banshee, can I see and manipulate my ipod.
How do I get around of fix this issue?
Thanks!

Don't take my word here since I don't know about your technical issue, but
I've had an iPod I that gave away because of compatibly issues with Linux.
2 years ago, there were a few media players who did implement iPod
synchronization on Linux but I never got it working properly after spending
quite a lot of time on it. I guess it worked for specific iPod versions but
it probably got broken as soon as Apple released firmware/software updates.
Maybe they now got it right on Banshee, but I will still never use an Apple
product again. After all the iPhone and iPad they sold, I believe Apple
never wanted to provide solutions for Linux users and this is obviously
their marketing strategy. Apple philosophy is even more closed than
Microsoft, and for this reason I choose to boycott Apple products.
Good luck!

I started using linux when the first version of Ubuntu was released. I was
using KDE and amarok 1.4 with the same ipod and it didn't sync, which was
fine since I wanted manual control, but I was able to manage music on there
no problem. As OS evolved I moved to arch, and pod use with newer versions
of amarok started to break. Now im not a fan of amarok 2, doesnt have a lot
of the features I like, so I gave banshee a shot since it dropped hal
support and it hooks into amazon mp3. I can still manage and sync with
banshee but I have to mount the ipod in nautilus 1st

I found another workaround from the Arch User Repository that auto mounts my
removable drives upon plug in. For now, this solves my problem, but I dont
know what the fix for banshee will be though.

Thanks,

I'm fairly sure that in addition to getting album art, MusicBrainz is also
used for getting track metadata when you insert a CD. It would be great to
integrate a Picard-style metadata correction feature that uses MusicBrainz
as its source, but so far no one has done it (that I know of). The
last.fmfingerprint extension is a good option, but I think it's only
available to
people with a last.fm account, and at this point it requires authentication
once (or more) every session because Banshee doesn't store user login
information in the keyring.

David, I think you confusing DLNA/UPNP (which we don't support), with
DAAP, which we support as a client, as you described.
So there is no support for DNLA/UPNP currently, but we have a Google
Summer of Code student working on that :

Hi,
I was trying to develop a banshee extension like the sample Jamendo
extension but my Banshee crashes entirely when navigating to a site
which attempts to use flash. I thought plugins were disabled in
libossifer? Is the crash limited to my system (ubuntu 11.04 x86_64) or
is it present in all Banshee versions (test by loading Jamendo and
clicking YouTube)?
Thanks

I had v1.8 and it worked perfect. I upgraded, made sure the ppa was correct,
all dependencies were installed, etc. It still will not play files. I can
sync my Clip+, edit track info, etc. It just won't play. I can send songs to
the play queue but when i press play or right click and select play nothing
happens. Sound works fine otherwise. I did a search but didn't turn up
anything resembling this. Has anyone heard of this happening before?
