DR: test program is in at-spi/test directory. You can get at-spi from cvs.
Try run simple-at or event-listener-test programs.

DR: to change a voice you can use gnopernicus GUI: I/O Settings/Speech 
Settings/Voices. Hare you can choose a voice from gnome speech for every 
gnopernicus voice.
