The more I think of it, the more your approach convinces me.
Way less hassle.

That query brings up 124 open tickets:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/report.cgi?x_axis_field=bug_severity&y_axis_field=priority&z_axis_field=product&query_format=report-table&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&longdesc_type=allwordssubstr&longdesc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=allwords&keywords=&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=NEEDINFO&emailtype1=substring&email1=&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&format=table&action=wrap&field0-0-0=assigned_to&type0-0-0=equals&value0-0-0=gnome-user-docs-maint%40gnome.bugs&field0-0-1=qa_contact&type0-0-1=equals&value0-0-1=gnome-user-docs-maint%40gnome.bugs&field0-0-2=noop&type0-0-2=noop&value0-0-2=

So now I'm tempted to compare with the diff to my query (I got 118
results more), to see if we're actually missing out on something
important. Probably not, and maybe I should waste my time on something
more productive. Like fish and chips.
