gnome-core + gnome-utils CVS 18 NOV 98

I compiled and linked gnome-core and gnome-utils extracted from CVS on
18 NOV 98 for the following platforms:

sparc-sun-solaris2.5.1
sparc-sun-solaris2.6
i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1 (redhat 4.1)
i686-pc-linux-gnu (redhat 5.1)
alpha-dec-osf4.0b
hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20
powerpc-ibm-aix4.2.1.0
mips-sgi-irix6.4

First you need to have latest gnome-http to link and it is not
detected.

- on alpha-dec-osf4.0b, modemlights applet was configured to be
  generated but did not compile. I disabled it.

- on mips-sgi-irix6.4, the applet esd-manager, the link command has
  esd-manager.o at the end and the linker does not like that.

- on powerpc-ibm-aix4.2.1.0, libtool problems to generate shared libs
  and one has to add the -Wl,-bbigtoc flag as usual to avoid table of
  contents overflow in the linker.
