Thanks for all the replies; it turns out that the ownership on the directory
/tmp/orbit-<user> where wrong. Once I changed the ownership on the directory
and the files contained therein I could log in again.
Once more, thanks!

Subject: Problem Logging In
Hi,
I have gnome set up on my Red Hat 6 box; when I try log in in, I just get a
message that Enlightenment is starting up and a blank (blue background)
screen. I can log in as root and the session is fine. Other users are not
reporting problems.
I tried removing the "session" file under the .gnome directory and have
confirmed that default.session is present in /usr/share/gnome.
Any ideas about this problem?
