misc gnome probs (9 questions)

Hi!

I've got a couple of questions regarding various Gnome programs:

1. Does gmc's or gnumeric's session management work for anyone?
Here, they alway starts on the first desktop with a very
small window size although I saved the session when they were
running on a different desktop nearly full-screen. In spite
of this session management works fine e.g. with Gnome terminal
   or the Gnome help browser.
   I tried WindowMaker's session management (0.52, 0.60) and
gnome-session with Enlightenment (0.15.5-35) with all the
recent versions (gmc up to 4.5.37 and gnumeric up to 0.31-3)
   without success.

Here a non-working and a working entry in my ~/.gnome/session
   file:

   9,id=11c0a82503000093272453300000040130011
   9,RestartStyleHint=2
   9,Program=gmc
   9,CurrentDirectory=/home/karsten
   9,DiscardCommand=rm /home/karsten/.gnome//gmc-pWk4uC/
   9,CloneCommand=gmc --sm-config-prefix /gmc-pWk4uC/
   9,RestartCommand=gmc --sm-config-prefix /gmc-pWk4uC/
   --sm-client-id 11c0a82503000093272453300000040130011
   10,id=11c0a82503000093272453300000040130010
   10,Program=gnome-help-browser
   10,CurrentDirectory=/home/karsten
   10,CloneCommand=gnome-help-browser --sm-config-prefix
   /gnome-help-browser-HnnOfD/ -x 1251 -y 16 -w 972 -h 768 toc:
   10,RestartCommand=gnome-help-browser --sm-config-prefix
   /gnome-help-browser-HnnOfD/
   --sm-client-id 11c0a82503000093272453300000040130010 -x 1251
   -y 16 -w 972 -h 768 toc:

Notice: There are no "-x", "-y", "-w" or "-h" switches in the gmc
entry. BTW: Where is the desktop number stored?

The file gmc-pWk4uC looks like this:

   [panel 2]
   cwd=/home/karsten

   Nothing more.

2. How am I supposed to use gdm's host chooser (gdmchooser)? On
my system gdm only executes gdmgreeter. I'm using gdm-1.0.0-36.
(BTW: The gdm.conf references a file called nohost.png which is
still missing in the gdm2 CVS module an of course in the rpm, too).

3. How do I get gdm to save/respect my session settings in
~/.gnome/gdm. It simply doesn't work here. gdm always selects
the Gnome session even though I configured AnotherLevel. My
   ~/.gnome/gdm file looks like this:

   [session]
   lang=de_DE
   last=AnotherLevel

This is the main reason why is still use KDE's kdm which doesn't
   have this problem.

4. I can't get my DEL key work correctly in Gnome Terminal. On my
system DEL is configured to send "^[[3~" and this sequence deletes
the character under the cursor. This works perfectly in a normal
   xterm. In a gnome-terminal I get "^H" or "^?" when I press DEL
(depending on the DEL/Backspace config option) but never "^[[3~".
   How comes?

5. Is applet dragging in the panel really supposed to COPY (e.g.
duplicate) the applet instead of moving it to the now position?
IMHO that doesn't make much sense.

6. When I remove an applet from the panel: Is it possible to configure
the panel to automatically scroll other the applets (right to the
removed applet) to occupy the now empty space?

7. Why has the file manager (gmc) in the System Menu a "drawer" icon?

8. It is possible to run programs in a terminal with the starter applet.
How can I configure the terminal window size and font?

9. How are the official tarballs for all the Gnome stuff generated from
the CVS module checkouts? "make dist" fails on most modules.

Thanks in advance,
             Karsten
