I'll answer your questions but I suspect you shouldn't be using CVS. It's
for developers only, and if you don't know the answer to these you are
pretty much assured of breaking your system. Breaking systems can be fun
and educational, but if it makes you irritable then stop now. :-)

You can't, you shouldn't be using 1.3 anyway. Use Gtk 1.2 with CVS Gnome.

Yes. You must remove all the RPMs.

No, that won't even begin to work. First of all, RPMs should only be
removed using RPM. See the RPM man page or Red Hat docs. Second, there are
bits of Gnome all over, not just in that directory.

You are going to break your apps. That's why CVS is CVS, and not a
release. So while others might try to tell you otherwise (it's possible
that you could be very careful and get very lucky), you should assume your
apps will break.

CVS will become RPMs sooner or later. Don't live on the cutting edge
unless you want to get cut. :-)
