control-center and applet proplems

Hi

I have a few problems I hope someone can help me with.

1) I cannot add any of the applets to the panel through Panel->Add
applet...

This what I get in the terminal when trying to add applets any.

2) When I start Contrl-Center I get these messages to the terminal

3) When I select any of setting gourps in the tree view of Control
Center I
get this message to my terminal.

** WARNING **: Unable reach the control-center.
Exiting...

And nothing appears in the right side of the tree view. If I then select
any
other setting group Control Center just exits with no messages in the
terminal.

4) I have set up a background image with Gnome 0.99.8. First time I
started Gnome 1.0 with this background image. On consequent times it
hasn't appeared.
