I got Gnome running!

Well, I finally managed to get gnome with E compiled and working
yesterday.  I'm truly impressed.  I see some small problems here and
there, but I can live with them until later revisions.

One problem in particular bothering me, however.  It seems that all my
icons have a black background to them; on the Gnome "start" menu, on the
desktop, even in mc (the file manager).  Can some kind soul help me out
here?
