        Yes, I suspected the --with-gnu-ld was superfluous. I built
GNOME on a RedHat 5.2 system, which already had some old GTK-related
libraries installed in prefix=/usr. The new versions were in /usr/local.
I tend to install a lot of open source software into my development
systems, so it's usually best to be explicit. If Derek Becker's system
was a stock RH 6.0 system, then none of those command line parameters
should have been necessary.
