RE: Gnome-libs 1.0.16 is released

My system consists of:

NEC Versa LX portable (300MHz i686)
        RedHat 5.2
        kernel rev. 2.2.9
        Accelerated X server, version 4.1.2
most all of the RH upgrades installed
        latest released sources found in
                ftp.gnome.org:/pub/GNOME/sources, including
                        gnome-core-1.0.9
                        gnome-utils-1.0.12
                        enlightenment-0.15.5
                [compiled on this system]

This version of gnome-libs doesn't appear to support logout
on my system, either. I did a "make uninstall" of gnome-libs 1.0.12,
then a "make install" of version 1.0.16, and ran /sbin/ldconfig.
Once again, the logout screen refused to make an appearance. I even
tried recompiling the panel to see if that would fix it. It didn't.
The only other clue is that the gnomepager_applet keeps dropping a
core file there on exit. gmc, gnome-terminal, and the other
applications I've tried still run fine. I have several applets in
the panel, including the battery monitor, netleds, the pager, and
the cpu/memory monitor applet, and the standard date/time clock.
They all run fine.

I tried removing the ~/.gnome*, and .gtkrc files, and
restarting. This did not fix things, either. The only thing that
changed was that, since I was no longer running the pager, the
core file was now produced by gnomecc. It looks like this is
that problem with GTK 1.2.3.

What could be causing this problem? It first happened with
1.0.14. In both cases, the only thing that fixed this was to
re-install 1.0.12. What information is needed in order to fix this?

FWIW, here's the backtrace from the gnomepager_applet core
file:
