BUG in gnome-media 1.0.51: Starting gmix kills CD sound (this bug needs to be reopened)

I just discovered this problem (I don't use my CD-player for music CDs
much), and found out that this bug was reported and subsequently closed
without a fix. So, I've filed another bug report in the hopes that it
will be corrected. I've also included the bug report below.

Package: gnome-media
Version: 1.0.51
Severity: grave

Opening gmix completely kills CD sound. CD sound can be restored by
typing "aumix -c R" at the terminal. I am using the Ensoniq AudioPCI
(ES1370) soundcard with the kernel driver (kernel 2.2.13 from Mandrake
Linux). After opening gmix, both cd players I tried (gtcd and kscd)
appear to be playing (the time is advancing) but no sound comes out of
the speakers. If aumix is invoked as above, cd sound works again.

Neither KDE's mixer nor aumix cause this problem.

This bug was reported by several individuals in the fall and was
subsequently closed (I presume for lack of confirmation, because there's
no evidence in the response to the bug reports or in gmix's ChangeLog
that any fixes were made). Original bug report numbers: 1929, 509, 764,
1079, and 1409.

Computer information:
Intel Pentium II
Mandrake Linux 6.1
October GNOME

Thanks,

Andrew Post
