Terminal problem?

Gnomies,

One the surface this doesn't seem like a gnome problem but it occured soon
after I upgraded to gnome-core 1.1.2. I can no longer use my modem. The
error log is below, it indicated a problem getting parameters from terminal
which is strange I didn't realize chat really needed to use the terminal.
