RH install ou ufgrade for gnome

Hello,

When I try to update or install the packages from RH (initially 6.0)
distibution of gnome,
I have either  file conflicts or missing dependancies. What is the best
way to run out of
this viceous cercle, force new install with -f or erase the entire
package ?
