I'm working on it now, GNOME Magic Folder Daemon. I'm tying it in with
GCONF right now, then I plan on releasing the source publicly. Give me
a week and good luck, and an initial release should be ready.

Basically, tho, it will scan a directory, and launch a script. Future
plans include a configuration module for the control center, docking the
"daemon" in the docklet status bar on the panel, to easily
pause/configure it from GNOME/KDE, and using bonobo/CORBA to launch
"plugins" on files instead of scripts. I also want to make FAM an
option.

I started this when someone wanted to tie in such functionality into
Nautilus, which is heiniously stupid. My appoarch will cause the
functionality to work no matter how the file gets there - Bash,
Nautilus, another daemon, whatever.
