Then the full answer is: "background-properties-capplet
--init-session-settings --background-image=IMAGEFILE" which magically
means that GNOME can be used from scripts or CLI too (<insert prefered
god here> forbid!). Or the reply was of "GNOME is only clicky clicky"
kind? :]

BTW, there should be a --no-gui or --from-script or something like
that, cos --init-session-settings does not sound nice, IMHO. As well
as access to tile modes and other settings, cos until then, other
commands win in script mode.
