error gnome-vfs-2.6.x with ngettext

I got error  when i compiling gnome-vfs-2.6.x ,

configure: error: Your Gettext installation doesn't seem to support 
ngettext to handle translation of plural forms. Please install GNU Gettext

I'm trying to re-install gettext even using gettext-14.1 but still have 
a problem
btw, i'm still using redhat 6.2, gcc-3.0, glibc-2.1.3 and gettext-11.4
