Hi,
I just installed stock Debian with Gnome 3 (first time seeing it), and

I completely agree. And what you have on Debian is an *old* GNOME - it
just keeps getting better. Version 3.8 was a real milestone in speed
and features and then 3.10 just piled on more awesome.

I remember hearing about the uproar when you released it; I'm sad that
so many people hated on your great work. It "just works" and I don't
have to tweak a bit of it.

That is the nature of the interwebz; the Internet has a powerful
negative bias [unless you can afford to pay a legion of online warriors
to counter it, which Open Source can never do]. Things are rarely as
bad as they seem, one just needs to read lists and forms via a reality
de-distortion filter which removes 9 of every 10 nattering posts.
