Running Fedora/Gnome on my notebook successfully for the last year or more, until last week. Now when I minimize a window, rather than showing up on the panel, it just disappears into the lower right hand corner of the screen. The app is still running, but I haven't been able to find a way to get the window(s) back. When I log out, all of the lost windows come back for a second just before Xwindows (?) shuts down. This seemed to start after a application running under WINE crashed after filling up a file system, but I'm not 100% sure. The installed OS is, I believe, the original Fedora release, but I run up-to-date fairly regularly (last time perhaps a month ago). While I am not a Linux newbie, I am, by no means a guru either, and as such am hoping someone can suggest a fix, or at least point me in the right direction to start looking. I have looked thru the system logs without finding anything that looked related, the panel functionality seems normal; the usual icons and applets are present, and work as advertised. The only thing I have noticed is that the work-place switcher is gone. I can move between workplaces using the hot-key combination; the missing windows aren't on another work-place either. I have switched to the KDE desktop until I can get GNOME fixed; if nothing else I will try the old Windoze trick; fdisk, setup.exe, but that's a last resort. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA! ByeBye! Have you tried right-clicking on ane EMPTY section of the panel, selecting 'Add to Panel'>Utilites>Window list and similarly for the workspace switcher? Now we need to disable(i.e. gray the menuitem) a particular menu item in this menu when a certain condition occurs. We thought probably the following function wud be useful: applet_widget_callback_set_sensitive defined in applet-widget.h but this is for gnome 1.0 and when we include the .h in our application,a zillion errors are generated!!!!!!!! Then we tried applet_object_callback_set_sensitive which is defined for 2.0 But again we aren't able to compile it.Says the function used is UNREFERENCED.Probably an extra header is required. Could some1 pls help us with this ..........suggest how to remove the eerror....orr disable the context menu's menuitem. 2) ALso,we need to make the dialog boxes modal.........i.e when a menu item is clicked,a dialog box1 opens and until the user responds i.e clicks ok...........the other menuitem in the context menu cant be clicked.............. i used set_window_modal but still the context menu items can be clicked though the dialog is modal.............. had used gnome_dialog_new for creating the dialog.Tried in glade and if theres a window and the dialog box,it acts modal bt not when instead of window theres a context menubar attched!! Now it should launch itself on the panel at startup We read http://www.gnome.org/learn/admin-guide/2.0/ch01s06.html#gconf-14 however as suggested here and on http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gconf-list/2004-July/msg00032.html we tried using the gconftool Now first we use it with -get to get the existing applet_id_list This gives me 6-7 attributes including [Default value] that has the list. Then we append the list to add our applet id to the list using gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --owner=panel --type list --list-type string --set "/apps/panel/default_profiles/medium/general /applet_id_list [the appended list here] the problem is that the original xml file that has the applet id list first mentions type=schema ,then ltype=list and stype=string. i.e - - - -
  • tasklist_applet
  • -
  • pager_applet
  • etc...... But when i used the gconftool to append to the list i get a file like:- - -
  • xxx_applet
  • -
  • tasklist_applet
  • -
  • pager_applet
  • etc... As u can see the modified file does NOT have type==schema but list etc. I dunno how to get this. i should probably give a schema so i Tried using --apply-schema with a .schema file that has the modified complete applet_is_list. but nothing happened.no change to the file Even tried to -get-schema-name i.e the schema thats being applied to the key but it says, there's no schema applied to the file!! Probably i dunno how to use it properly. Could someone help me........ Also when i manually modified all the required files.........the applet runs when i shutdown and restart but NOT when i log out and re-login. do i need to handle some signal or what? sorry for the long mail but i thought maybe it'll make things clearer for others to answer. TIA! ByeBye!
Then we tried applet_object_callback_set_sensitive which is defined for 2.0 But again we aren't able to compile it.Says the function used is UNREFERENCED.Probably an extra header is required.
Thanx
