In 3.4 it should update everything in dconf (haven't checked though).

That is correct, *except* that Ubuntu reverted the corresponding patches to gnome-control-center and gnome-settings-daemon, so the breakage is expected for Ubuntu users. As mentioned before, the workaround is to use the gsettings command line utility.
