For whatever reason, the www.gnome.org wordpress doesn't support subdomains. So we have a wordpress for: www.gnome.org blogs.gnome.org foundation.gnome.org (requested) projects.gnome.org (requested) each with its own authorization (different logins) This is a mess. What features are you planning to put in the project website? If it's only about explaining about the project with text and screenshots, the applications area for gnome.org I've been working on[1] seems to work fine. And if you are planning to keep a blog on it, with posts about releases etc, we could integrate gnome.org post system to allow that and put blog posts inside the app page. We just need to discuss a few things regarding GNOME News[2] first. So the stuff Frederic linked to seems more about making splash pages for apps we want to highlight, and less about full pages for projects. I want to put information up about using Yelp and the Yelp tools for creating, managing, and publishing help. This includes information on the build tools, the verification tools, and the supported Mallard extensions and style hints. The audience is people who want to deploy help and are considering using the free software tools GNOME has developed for documentation. -- Shaun From vdepizzol@gmail.com Tue Nov 8 17:51:21 2011 Return-Path: X-Original-To: gnome-web-list@gnome.org Delivered-To: gnome-web-list@gnome.org Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by menubar.gnome.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 98BE5750088 for ; Tue, 8 Nov 2011 17:51:21 +0000 (UTC) X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at gnome.org X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: -2.7 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.7 tagged_above=-999 required=2 tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, DKIM_SIGNED=0.1, DKIM_VALID=-0.1, DKIM_VALID_AU=-0.1, FREEMAIL_FROM=0.001, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW=-0.7, SPF_PASS=-0.001] autolearn=ham Received: from menubar.gnome.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (menubar.gnome.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id PbvHEjay-pQF for ; Tue, 8 Nov 2011 17:51:19 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-ey0-f182.google.com (mail-ey0-f182.google.com [209.85.215.182]) by menubar.gnome.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 62FDF750065 for ; Tue, 8 Nov 2011 17:51:10 +0000 (UTC) Received: by eyd10 with SMTP id 10so1023112eyd.27 for ; Tue, 08 Nov 2011 09:51:09 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:from:date:message-id:subject:to :content-type; bh=G6iprQxAd+fV87DurIVNAGhrDx4iWTGTPBJ58xGnpPQ=; b=hD/U7ZPGKKb+crz/16kzbENvxYURKVCv9RL4M5jvZ9HMgeDW/5hH3zvRE6rf0h+Hx2 X4mwHuGCqaWKfIee6qX1OvB0CoFjd1whxlonWlR1HdwsPM3GCPOif9Le8PUDA0nlxn+i o4YP0HoufDo1Qp6TB7pgOmfAE8omp+4b1n7U8= Received: by 10.213.19.204 with SMTP id c12mr775250ebb.126.1320774669146; Tue, 08 Nov 2011 09:51:09 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.213.12.202 with HTTP; Tue, 8 Nov 2011 09:50:28 -0800 (PST) In-Reply-To: <20111108082345.GA6692@bkor.dhs.org> References: <1320684525.8177.88.camel@recto> <20111108082345.GA6692@bkor.dhs.org> From: Vinicius Depizzol Date: Tue, 8 Nov 2011 15:50:28 -0200 Message-ID: Subject: Re: WP for projects.gnome.org To: gnome-web-list@gnome.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-BeenThere: gnome-web-list@gnome.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: GNOME Website Development List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 08 Nov 2011 17:51:21 -0000 On Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 06:23, Olav Vitters wrote: > > For whatever reason, the www.gnome.org wordpress doesn't support > subdomains. In fact WordPress support multiple subdomains and websites (blogs.gnome.org uses it), but I never really tried it (there is some documentation here[1], I'll take some time to read). Still, I don't think foundation and projects should be located in different instances of WordPress. We can easily make them well located on www.gnome.org. > each with its own authorization (different logins) > > This is a mess. Agreed. Having two instances (for www and for blogs) seems a lot enough. Yeah, this wouldn't be really for projects like Yelp and for information regarding build tools and other development issues. > The audience is people who want to deploy help and are considering > using the free software tools GNOME has developed for documentation. Do you think projects which are not related to development should require WordPress for their website projects? If the cases that don't fit in www.gnome.org are only those related to development, we can start focusing for real on your great idea of reorganizing developer.gnome.org[1] (the yelp and mallard information would then go to this wp-powered developer area). Reorganizing the development area was one of the items in my GSoC, and while I couldn't do it in time I'm still planning to work on it. I'm really not sure of the answer to your question. People on this mailing list deal primarily with front-end design and some back-end implementation of GNOME web site stuff, and we don't venture into the workings of libgda. Sorry! Your version of Chromium appears to be interpreting space characters in the html document in a way that browsers don't usually. I've never seen this behaviour before. I've checked the web page on Chromium 14.0.835.202 on Ubuntu 11.10, and the page renders without the big spaces that could be seen in your attachment. Could you check the page again for us, and let us know if this is still happening? Could you also tell us which version of Chromium and Ubuntu you are running? It would be nice to know if this is a problem with the browser or our CSS. Calum Benson and me are currently working on a new version. The plan at the moment is to incrementally produce new content. Although we might not have a 'complete' resource for a while, I'm hoping that it won't be too long until we have something that people find useful. The new version of the HIG is planned to be a more dynamic resource than the previous version. Though there will be some relatively static guidelines, there will also be some dynamic content in the form of a collection of design patterns. The aim here is to have a resource that can adapt to changing design practice and see us into the future. This creates the question of how to host the new HIG. A CMS seems like a logical option, since that will allow us to show when pages have been updated and to highlight new content on a potential HIG homepage. It is also worth noting that we will ideally want the new HIG be a part of developer.gnome.org once it is ready. Thoughts?
