Re: [GnomeMeeting-list] gnome 2.10 audio problem

thank Damian.. but...
i can see that my english is really bad ;-)

i will try to explain again
under gnome 2.10 alsa works great.
i can use alsa with totem-xine and all the other audio applications installed with gnome 2.10 (rhytmbox ecc.)
if i open the mixer control i can switch between alsa and oss mixer.

i think that all the necessary modules are loaded, here a dump of lsmod | grep snd:

snd_usb_audio 67392 0
snd_usb_lib 13088 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_rawmidi 24032 1 snd_usb_lib
snd_seq_device 8652 1 snd_rawmidi
snd_intel8x0 33216 2
snd_ac97_codec 78360 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_pcm_oss 53344 1
snd_mixer_oss 19872 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 92712 4 snd_usb_audio,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 24644 1 snd_pcm
snd 55300 11 snd_usb_audio,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 9664 2 snd
snd_page_alloc 10020 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
usbcore 120312 7 snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,pwc,usb_storage,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd

this is the output of 'amixer -c 1' (card 1 is the usb input sound device)

Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
 Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
 Capture channels: Mono
 Limits: Capture 0 - 3
 Mono: Capture 3 [100%] [on]

this the output of 'cat /proc/asound/cards'

                    Intel ICH5 with AD1981B at 0xc0000c00, irq 209

but gnomemeeting can't see the alsa devices... in the wizard it only shows 'oss' and 'quicknet' as audio system
so i think that is a gnomemeeting configuration problem.
i cannot try to 'apt-get remove --purge gnomemeeting' and reinstall: there is a dipendency problem that would remove completly gnome.

and.. i will be very happy to use ubuntu, but hoary have serious problems on my pc and freeze completly when i try to write large file on my external usb disk ;-(

i hope this time to be more clear and intelligible
if theser is something alsa that i must investigate, lat me know ;-)

many thanks again

Max

under gnome 2.10 in debian sid i have compiled the latest pwc kernel module form saillard.org
the video driver works weel, also if only with v4l, but i cant use the audio

when i plug the webcam the preferences wizard (i'm translating from italian, i hope the translation could be intelligible) recognize the /dev/dsp1 device (not listed when the cam is unplugged) but the test fails.
lsof /dev/dsp1 show no ather process using the device...

under ubuntu hoary gnomemeeting recognized well all the audio usb driver (alsa and oss) and was working great...
under sid it seems not able to recognize the alsa usb driver...

any suggestion? ;-)

Use Ubuntu ;)

Nope, use ALSA and not OSS as plugin and configure your alsa system
properly. However, it is a bit out of scope for this mailing list.
