progressive zoom

Anyone knows a way of updating an image multiple times from a callback?

I have a zoom callback function that goes thru the different steps of the zoom, from minimun to maximun  size. However when the function is called it "jumps" directly to the maximun size with out going thru the intermediate steps. 

any help would be greatly apreciated.
