GTK <-> GDK

Hi,
can anybody tell me, where can I read about Gtk and Gdk ties. I'm not
absolutely new to Gtk/Gdk, but before starting using it I had no
experience in X programming, so I just can't understand phylosophy of
structures organization. Maybe I write too complicated, I just wanna get,
what are the borders between Gtk and Gdk.

I think the answer could be found just looking in headers, but I hope
somebody 've done it for me :)
