Actually, you can already do this--Meld has text filters for ignoring
differences in text that match Python regular expressions.  Look at the
menu Meld -> Preferences and then the Text Filters tab.  Constructing a
regular expressions to match version numbers or copyright dates should
be relatively straightforward.
