Yes Ubuntu will work on netbooks. They're just standard x86-based machines, and no matter which one you get you can find instructions on getting Ubuntu to work on them.
Let's not go into the Linux vs Windows debate on this list though, that's a black hole leading into an inferno of flame wars.
