Re: [orca-list] Accessibility status inquiry

Hi Alex.

PiÃeiro has already addressed your other questions. Regarding this:

Also, Will Orca 3.0 work with Gnome
2.3x if it turns out we ahve to sit tight for a while on some of the
a11y issues?

Gosh yes. We have -- and will continue -- to go out of our way to be as
backwards-compatible as possible. We always have. Not because of things
like GNOME 3 and Unity, but because we realize that people might like
their current stable environment but want the latest Orca.

But in terms of the more recent happenings:

One of the reasons I seem to be buried at the moment is because I'm
currently working on redoing our gui code so that it will support both
gtk2 with pygtk and gtk3 with pygi.

In terms of Yelp, the problem being that Yelp 3 is WebKitGtk based and
Yelp 2 is Gecko based, I've added support so that Orca detects which is
being used and loads the appropriate version-specific script.

Javi is finishing up work on a gsettings backend. I don't think it will
make it in time for Monday's code freeze. But even after it gets
committed, there will still be the yaml backend which can be used
environments in which gsettings is not present or sufficiently mature.

You should find Orca master is compatible with gnome 2.32 and 2.30. And
I suspect it will also work as expected in gnome 2.28, but I have no
such systems on which to verify that. Do note that in the case of 2.30
and earlier, you'll want a more recent version of Atk due to a couple of
rather unfortunate bugs.

Hope this helps. Take care.
