Re: [orca-list] in learn mode, orca does not announce the key pressed

Isn't there an open bug for regressions caused by the keybindings work?

We should add comments relating to learn mode to that.

Hi Paul and all.

Since I use orca in a laptop, I configured orca to use capslock as the orca key. In learn mode if I press for example capslock+d, the D character is inserted.

To reproduce:
1. Launch gedit.
2. Make sure that orca is configured to use capslock as the orca key.
3. Press capslock+h to activate the learn mode.
4. Press capslock+d assuming that combination has no function associated.
5. Press the escape key.

Note that a character D (in uppercase) is present in the text.

Thanks.

Hi,

Well, the current situation appears to be that if you press a key
combination that has an Orca function associated with it then you hear
the function only.

I agree that you should hear the key combination you pressed followed by
the Orca function.

For example, if you press insert + f you hear "reads the attributes
associated with the current text character". And you should hear "Orca +
f, reads the text attributes associated with the current text character".

Now, if I press insert + some character key that does not have an Orca
function bound to it then I hear nothing and further more the letter key
I pressed is entered into the text I was editting before entering learn
mode.

The state of locking keys is still being toggled if you press a locking
key in learn mode.

Also, On my machine at least, I need to press insert + a numpad key to
hear the Orca function of that numpad key when it's pressed on its own.

Let me clarify. If I press numpad begin whilst in learn mode I hear
"begin", and if I press insert + numpad begin I hear "speaks the current
flat review object", which is wrong.

Paul

Hey all.

I don't know if this is a bug or this is by design, but when I enter
in learn mode, orca does not announce the ke that I press, only the
function associated to the key.
I'd like to hear the key name and the function.
