Some tips:

after starting Ubuntu 18.04 press Control+Alt+Escape to land on the Desktop.

Control+Alt+Tab takes you to the top bar on the upper right of the 
screen, with Arrow right to the System menu and Arrow Down to the 
several options for WiFi etc.
