[orca-list] Recommendations for a gnome desktop environment and or distro

Hi everyone,

I've been away from gnome for some time and am now returning.

I've seen several posts of people moving way from the latest ubuntu not
totally clear on the issues though.

I recall mate used to be the more accessible option, ubuntu mate distro
or another e.g. debian.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what they feel is best.

I just installed stock ubuntu 19.04 in a vm and am finding terrible lag
with both espeak and voxin.  Is this something others have seen or
something specific to my setup?

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

I'm  more than happy to build orca from source if that helps.
