Hi,

I was wanting to test the 'new' rhythmb= ox, (rhythmbox-2.99.1-1.fc19.x86_64) and strangely on my laptop I don't= get the 'settings' widget on the upper right of the screen. =A0I d= id also installed in a kvm box and it does appear there. =A0Weird, =A0Just = that I would like it on the laptop. =A0I tried nuking my ~/.local/share/rhy= thmbox directory with same result. =A0Any idea what may be happening here? = =A0Screenshot and error below.

Shouldn't you be researching it instead of asking us? Anyway, here's a few hints: Just think about what hardware on the system is consuming power while Rhythmbox is playing: - The hard disk or SSD consumes power to read the music data from disk (or the network, in which case the hard disk is idle and the network card is consuming power) - The CPU consumes power to load the music into RAM, decode it, and process it if necessary with effects etc - The sound card consumes power when it is active, because it has to run a DAC and drive a speaker or headphones - The GPU consumes power (on modern OSes where the GPU is used for desktop rendering) to render the UI, especially during UI updates; if the UI is unchanged, very little resource is consumed. Now think about how you will measure power consumption before and after your changes. You can try software like Powertop, which may work if your OS is Linux-based, to check the number of wakeups per second coming from rhythmbox. Or you can measure power consumption at the wall outlet, but be careful you aren't running any (known or unknown) background tasks that might be taking up power, like an automated desktop search indexer. Then you just start making changes targeting a specific subsystem (GPU, CPU, sound card, or I/O), measure, and repeat until you've "appreciably" reduced the power consumption (I don't know what your threshold for that would be). Keep in mind that removing features is definitely one "easy" way to reduce power consumption, but probably not what your assignment is asking, since true power use optimization doesn't sacrifice features -- although you are free to implement them in a different way. Also remember that a lot of the power consumption characteristics of a modern Linux desktop depend *heavily* on the driver subsystem, so you are in all likelihood not going to see any improvement from working on Rhythmbox directly. Most of the real power savings comes from components in the Linux kernel and the graphics stack. You can open in rhythmbox and should be able to organise the temporary f= ile without any additional steps.

The folder showed up, but none of the music files showed up. What is the problem here? I have since deleted the files from rhythm box until you can tell me what the problem with your syncing system to my private cloud is. I do not have to buy from Ubuntu Music Store something which I already own. Please figure out the glitch and provide me with a workable solution. Christine PS- someone seems to have tried to Landscape my machine on the Ubuntu update without my permission. I see the components installed. They may possibly be using my old gmail: chrisie.echo4ever@gmail.com or one of the ones I had previously. Not a very nice "developer", in my opinion. I try again, this time on Right Cluck in the Launcher, that does way, but it keeps on playing. I ended going into the MONITOR and killing the process. What the heck is going on here? Why are you still playing when I try to get out of it. I do not see any icons on the screen or the quicklaunch. This reminds me of the annoying quicktime and realplayer that want to take over your computer each update. I'm sure I'm missing something that will seem obvious once someone points out the real exit, but to not stop playing when the window is closed, or the lunch bar has right clicked quit, is weird. The behaviour you find objectionable is something the ubuntu team added to rhythmbox for their distribution. You should take this up with them. I think applications should exit when you close the application window. The behaviour you find objectionable is something the ubuntu team
added to rhythmbox for their distribution. You should take this up
with them. I think applications should exit when you close the
application window.
