While I increased a few deadlines, you picked a bad example: Your proposed timeframe for Dictionary Manual was "3-4 days", see https://live.gnome.org/action/info/GoogleCodeIn/Tasks?action=diff&rev2=193&rev1=192#line-478 I turned your "4 days" into "100 hours". I think that's quite appropriate (4 hours more). > Should each of us revise those time estimations? No. In general: It doesn't hurt anybody if a student hands in the work earlier, plus having more time for reviews/iterations. Plus keep in mind the time it takes to set up infrastructure (e.g. learning git, understand required applications etc, Learning curve, time zones, etc). andre -- mailto:ak-47@gmx.net | failed http://blogs.gnome.org/aklapper | http://www.openismus.com From andika@gmail.com Thu Nov 17 01:57:25 2011 Return-Path: X-Original-To: gnome-doc-list@gnome.org Delivered-To: gnome-doc-list@gnome.org Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by menubar.gnome.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6882B750337; Thu, 17 Nov 2011 01:57:25 +0000 (UTC) X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new at gnome.org X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: -2.699 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.699 tagged_above=-999 required=2 tests=[BAYES_00=-1.9, DKIM_SIGNED=0.1, DKIM_VALID=-0.1, DKIM_VALID_AU=-0.1, FREEMAIL_FROM=0.001, HTML_MESSAGE=0.001, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW=-0.7, SPF_PASS=-0.001] autolearn=ham Received: from menubar.gnome.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (menubar.gnome.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id JGkNF8dFRuWC; Thu, 17 Nov 2011 01:57:23 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-bw0-f54.google.com (mail-bw0-f54.google.com [209.85.214.54]) by menubar.gnome.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A6FC275032A; Thu, 17 Nov 2011 01:57:13 +0000 (UTC) Received: by bkbzs8 with SMTP id zs8so2416935bkb.27 for ; Wed, 16 Nov 2011 17:57:11 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:from:date:message-id:subject:to:content-type; bh=MVwEOPVJxrddWdcPGrj3ncYbeIIN6eBP1hW9TjwWxxk=; b=BTJO24Vo00Vqt3Gk0pxS9TNQtnvRQfV6nmx0J7cr49VgZhSh9pnBpPLbI8n/nWWO/N 1Irouwc620Khzpa1SSo22On2jrj1LibNeXPEZKSr1Z6DRK1yH++VPpB8EzAml3EdKjdj GyEyBl3PPautMguZEDoEizloUOwwb9pOcanQo= Received: by 10.204.9.204 with SMTP id m12mr4654735bkm.131.1321495031161; Wed, 16 Nov 2011 17:57:11 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.204.112.148 with HTTP; Wed, 16 Nov 2011 17:56:50 -0800 (PST) From: Andika Triwidada Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2011 08:56:50 +0700 Message-ID: Subject: Google Code-In 2011 time in hours To: desktop-devel-list , gnome-bugsquad , usability@gnome.org, gnome-love , GNOME Documentation , GNOME i18n Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=0015175ce212e7a50704b1e4897f X-Mailman-Approved-At: Fri, 18 Nov 2011 14:52:58 +0000 X-BeenThere: gnome-doc-list@gnome.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: GNOME documentation issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 17 Nov 2011 01:57:25 -0000 --0015175ce212e7a50704b1e4897f Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Hi Andre, After you have converted all estimated time from days to hours, it seems that every task, even the simplest one, need much more time than initially. After you have converted all estimated time from days to hours, it seems that every task,
even the simplest one, need much more time than initially. For instance, when I wrote
a 2-days task of translating 'dictionary manual' into Indonesian, I was thinking of
max two 8-hour days, not two 32-hour ones.

Should each of us revise those time estimations?
