Yes, I agree that all translators/contributors (^2) should get
credits. Maybe not as prominent (and in bold letters) as the
authors but still visible to the end user somewhere.

Over the years I contributed a couple of translations (both new
translations and updates) to GNOME and other projects. On some
of these translations my name was even removed (^1) from the
the de.po file (where most people won't see it anyway). Well, I
think I needn't mention that this doesn't raise the motivation
to contribute more. (But I still do!)

IMHO full visible credits to the translators/contributors isn't
asked too much (a small scrolltext in the about box will do).
If only to have an adequate answer to the famous flame fest
question "What have *you* contributed to GNOME anyway?". :-)

This could even push the idea that free software is software
for the masses *from* the masses. Or is it only me who is
impressed e.g. by all the fine people that appear in the gimp
about box? (Which isn't perfect either as it takes too long to
see them all)

bye,
  Karsten

^1: Accidently one of those packages is rpm (2.3.3 -> 2.3.4)
which is maintained by you now. But don't worry: I take it
easy! :-)

^2: I.e. lso people that send in fixes. The rule could be "if
your name appears in the ChangeLog it should appear in the
credits, too."
