Thanks for the additional info. An oversight by my side...

Yes and no. I'm inclined to change gnome-libs (german message file)...
OTOH, there's a difference between "_New" and "Create New _Window",
obviously.

It looks to me that your proposal is sane. The comment clearly says
"Create New _Window" belongs to the Window menu:

    #.
    #. * Window menu
    #.
    #: libgnomeui/gnome-app-helper.c:247
    msgid "Create New _Window"
    msgstr "Neues _Fenster"

Our friends form the UI department have to decide whether it's okay to
have this menu entry in the File menu, too. Martin, why not just using
"_New"?

Yes, it's late -- OTOH, one can argue it's a UI bug which has to be
fixed. Either use "New" in "File" or move "Create New Window" to the
"Windows" menu.

This isn't that easy. It's important to have accelerators consistently
assigned all over the GNOME applications.

I admit that's a valid argument, too. Nevertheless there's only one
solution: Don't use the stock menu entry from the Window menu in File :)
