Good point. I guess most of us were assuming that everyone knew what the
TP is, which of course isn't true. The TP is just as you say another
translation project. It used to be called the "Free Translation Project"
but nowadays it's just "Translation Project". The TP translates, among
other things, many core gnu utilities.
The TP has an e-mail "robot" which translators use to send in their
translations and translation updates, which checks the translations for
basic errors and well-formedness and forwards them to the application
maintainers. Application maintainers on the other hand only interfere
with the TP by collecting the translations and by sending in a new pot
file every once in a while.
