But are the IDs directly used in status pages? People can be scared when
they see something else rather than "developer-libs", "extras" etc...

Yes, this change will have the least impact, though the release IDs will
become useless. Do it correctly from the ground up would need too much
change without much benefit...

Anyway, when your code generates the pages, is the output log available
somewhere? I hope I can pick up errors (POTFILES.*, po files errors etc)
there...
