Calling them the 2.5 status pages is insane IMHO -- I don't think we
want to break everyone's links later. That's why I called the current
2.4 status pages
(http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gtp/status/gnome-2.4/) "2.4" right
from the start -- I didn't want to break all translators links and
bookmarks at a confused moment later when we would be starting thinking
that the release is suddenly not 2.3-ish enough and that the pages
should really be named 2.4 instead. When would that moment be? Formally,
"2.3" is not "2.4" until GNOME 2.4.0 has been officially released, so
renaming the status pages at any earlier point would still be formally
wrong. *And* breaking everyone's links.

IMHO it's better to be honest right up front from the start about what
stable GNOME release the status pages are about, especially since we
can't expect all translators to be familiar with the GNOME release
process and how the version numbers are assigned, and it's also very
convenient to be able to use the same links and bookmarks for the whole
translation period. Lots of teams link to our status pages for a
specific release or even fetch their data from our status pages, so I
would hate breaking those links at a later point and making everyone
have to update and explain all that mess.
