Hi everyone,

@Danishka; this is a good chance to get touch with you, we don't see your contributions/support for FOSS projects (not only gnome) as several years ago; seems more inactive and your most local projects/sites abandoned. there're so many strings in every packages remain untranslated since many years compared to other languages;also outdated or incorrectly added translations (not related to below) contain on already contributed gnome packages, that's why i decided to become a coordinator for contribute to this project with you.

The second thing, 

"Whoever becoming a coordinator should have at least basic idea of localization standards.Please review your files before uploading to any project, not just gnome.
For example, you have translated January as දුරුතු instead of ජනවාරි (which we use as the standard Sinhala term/word for the month of January.) [1],[2]
Now, if you produce a short version of months in Sinhala, no one can recognize the list. I hope you understand my point."

I know about localization standards; don't be unhappy, those aren't translations; just only an adoption of english words so we decided to fix them because we have our own standards since long time before such impacts.

January - ජනවාරි (janavaari) - දුරුතු (duruthu)
February - පෙබරවාරි (pebaravaari) - නවම් (navam)
April - අප්‍රේල් (apreel) - බක් (bak)
May - මැයි (mayi) - වෙසක් (vesak)
June - ජූනි (juuni) - පොසොන් (poson)

Furthermore, there're other words you have added similar "Menu - මෙනුව (menuwa)", Email - ඊමේල් (eemail), Minute - මිනිත්තුව (miniththuwa) and more. i don't see any reason for translators to keep doing that while local words exist for them.

Let's say a student reading an announcement from the Ministry of Education for starting new school term. Ministry is referring to 2021 ජනවාරි 01, but your calendar has a different label for the month of January as දුරුතු.

Well, people know about that both; how?
- We have a traditional format calender; it especially use on new year weeks otherwise we cannot participate to traditional activities without it and whole year for astrological purposes, check zodiac signs etc (then usually people purchase both)
- Some news papers and online magazine sites keep use both standards (eg: http://budusarana.lk/)
- Special celebration months similar April (new year), May (vesak festival), June (poson festival) etc all media including television channels, radio channels, online sites etc "only" use those local words. බක් (bak), වෙසක් (vesak), පොසොන් (poson).

Actually that's why we translate these projects to native languages; not only for write particular word in different script as above otherwise we can keep use everything in english.

I will push 100% translated files later. Currently i intend to follow this way for a while.

For now, @danishka seems responsive but If gnome team doesn't interest to keep two coordinators; i prefer see @danishka remain as coordinator. It'll be always better to collaborate with many persons much as possible for tasks similar localization rather than drop anyone.

Localization of gnome or any other project/application should not introduce conflicts with existing applications and other content. For example, Ubuntu [3]

Udesh, great proposal, however I don't see you as a translator in the
team. That would be a first step, along with some translation uploads on
the site.

Danishka, it would be awesome if you could confirm that request and tell
us if you are interested to continue coordinating the team or not.
