Does work, but now that I think about it it's not clear enough what
that does. I guess it opens a new window to ~/, regardless of where
you open it from? From a web-browser-metaphor perspective I suppose
that makes sense. I don't personally like it (new window with the
same location as the current window would make more sense to me),
but that's okay.

I still think "view desktop as window" (or similar) might be a 
useful thing to have in general.
