Having just discovered why alt-1 doesn't switch channels in my IRC
client any more (gnome-terminal now uses it to switch notbook tabs) I
concur - I can't see a way to rebind the key, either.

next/previous tab seems enough, expecially if people can bind a key
to a given tab themselves.
