[Usability]HIG development

There are 47 bugs reports against the HIG which are NEW, NEEDINFO, or
REOPENED. Many of these are easy fixes and I've submitted patches for
a few.

Here's the list: http://makeashorterlink.com/?K1F665C92

For the most part, they just sit there. The remaining HIG authors,
Seth and Calum, have little or no time to work on the HIG.

Some of the bugs are bad recommendations: things that abuse the toolkit,
create a maintenance nightmare, or just aren't what they purport to be.

The HIG is not just important for GNOME's consistency, it is also important
to developers using GNOME who are contracted to create limited-use software
to platform specifications. The HIG is for these people a legal document.

I was once one of the HIG authors. I am willing to do the grunt work so that
the HIG is actually useful to GNOME developers. So long as nobody insists
my name appears on it (haha), I would do so leaving those things which I think
are horrible UI decisions - such as Close buttons, because of which I quit
and had my name removed.

I still have CVS access to the HIG, afaik. I've not tried to use it in many
months.

So I'd like to know:
  Should I make the fixes?
Does anyone want me to do so?
  Does anyone object?
  Does anyone care at all?

Most importantly: do I have approval from whoever is supposed to give it,
and how do I know?

Cheers,
Greg Merchan
