Escape, stop, aargh, must escape, run away! [Re: [Usability] Galeon's Find Feature]

I was (and to a large extent still am) a panicky user and if something is
not working right I'm inclineded to reach to the top left corner and bang
Esc like a madman.

Esc should Cancel, Close, Exit in the least destructive manner possible.
I'm not convinced there is ever a situation where I should be force to
read a dialog rather than being allowed back away from making any
decision.
