	That's a good point. I think that at some point everyone's got to
acknowledge that all applications and environments share some common
requirements (or at least desired features) for configuration
management. Configuration is also pretty low level and a lot of things
rely on it. We can't expect to have cross environment configuration that
doesn't reinvent the wheel without a cross envrionment configuration
platform. A good application registration and mime association mechanism
is going to depend on a configuration platform. Building a seperate
mechanism also sucks because clients will have to understand yet another
configuration interface.

	I wonder if the KDE people and the GNOME people can both agree on at
least that point. If they can, that's a start. Realisticly, building a
shared configuration subsystem is going to mean work for everyone who
wants to move to it; I don't think that KDE's going to accept GConf and
I don't think that GNOME is going to accept Sycoca. Has a dialogue on
this topic been attempted?
