I hate those files, the make me angry, they fill me with resentment!

Oh, wait you meant recent files.  The Recent Files menu covers this
adequately, however making sure the file dialog remembers folder(s) that
you have recently saved to is a differnt question entirely one which will
need to be considered (although the responsibility for doing that right is
probably the application developers problem rather than the file dialog
widget).

New File, New File from Template, this is a whole different issue from
Opening and Saving a file, I am sure it is beyond the scope of what is
being discussed.
