[Usability] Volume Control Consistency between Rhythmbox and Totem

It is my understanding that Rhythmbox and Totem are being considered as 
default movie/music players for Gnome 2.8 (please correct me if I'm 
mistaken). I'm looking forward to this as both are great apps (and 
getting better all the time).

I have noticed an inconsistency between the two that might trip some 
people up (it gets me every once and a while).

In Totem, there are two sliders in the main UI, a file/playback progress 
slider, and a volume slider. At the end of the Totem volume slider there 
is a "speaker" icon that mutes/unmutes the audio.

In Rhythmbox there is a file/playback progress slider, but the volume 
slider only shows up when you click the Volume icon.

The trouble is, the Volume button in Rhythmbox is placed at the end of 
the file/playback progress bar and looks a lot like the mute/unmute 
button in Totem.

Anyone have any suggestions for a standard? I understand that the UI in 
Rhythmbox (and perhaps Totem as well) is still being worked on. I 
thought I would post here to Gnome-Usability first to see what others 
thought.
