So here we go:

Yes, our work with KDE is quite fruitful. Basically, we are doing two things:
Supporting single KDE projects that sign up there, and at the same time we are
trying to provide standards how to improve the overall usability of KDE.

However, OpenUsability was never meant to be a KDE related project, they just
happened to be the first to show interest in it :) Our actual aim is to
bundle OSS usability efforts, to learn from related projects' experiences, to
apply results from usability studies to all projects the issues are of
interest for. That's what 'Open' is about, no? During the last months, more
and more non-KDE projects registered, e.g. several web content management
systems, Anjuta, Alexandria and lately the GIMP.

Unfortunately, and as Calum stated, the platform is far from supporting those
processes. But we are currently developing a number of tools which will allow
for a better collaboration within and between projects. For example, we are
using NX technology to give usability people access to the current
development versions of applications so they won't have to compile them
themselves (the latter turned out to be the highest barrier when getting
usability people involved with OSS).

Furthermore, we are planning an issue tracker, similar to a bug
tracking-system but including usability-related data such as links to videos
from test sessions, written results of usability tests, use cases relevant
for an issue etc. The issues are going to be categorized to allow for
cross-project reference. Developers needed!! ;-)

Last saturday, I heard Mark Shuttleworth talking about collaboration between
different OSS projects, why it is important and how it will increase the power
of OSS. Basically the same talk he held at Guadec in Stuttgart. He never
mentioned usability - I wonder why?!

Greetings,
/el
