Actually it's no longer true -- CVS HEAD uses alphabetical sorting based
on the user's locale.

Vincent and Fred Crozat confirmed this on IRC, and see also gnome
bug 171804, in which this sorted behaviour was requested, and lack
of it reported as a bug.

Ah, for libwnck-style grouped windows (this does not happen for
windows that aren't grouped). Libwnck-style grouped windows are
inherently broken anyway. Trying to fix those are a waste of time, in
my opinion. But, feel free to try to convince Vincent to fix it. :) If you want a system that works, just turn libwnck's grouping off. This is only one bug of many affecting those, and while this one may
be fixable, many of the others are not.

Maybe a context menu option to sort the list would be better?

Maybe nuking libwnck grouping (or rewriting the grouping algorithm at
the very least) and all associated prefs and a couple dozen unfixable
grouping bugs would be better. IMNSHO, anyway.
