I think it makes a whole lot of sense that the Gnome About dialog would
also include information about date and build version including
distribution.  Hopefully that would be enough to discourage distributions
from wasting space with another menu item but there is no guarantee and it
is hard to know how things will play out.  Distriburtions are pretty
serious about custom branding and marking things prominantly as a way to
differentiate themselves.

Go for it.  I'd be amazed if the Gnome About maintainers found reasons to
decline good patches.
