All the task bar really does is toggle minimize or change focus. A lot of 
people would like to be able to close a number of windows on the task bar 
more easily. This is certainly not the first time something like this has 
been suggested.

Some could suggest an actual close button on the task button.
Some could suggest a modifier key that would close them.

Personally, I think the best solution for me is to have the task bar share all 
the options of the titlebars of windows, such that it could mimick titlebar 
actions. Still, this wouldn't work for most right now because the titlebar is 
horribly unconfigurable.

You know with Beryl, mouse wheel up rolls up the window, mouse wheel down 
rolls down the window. That makes sense. You can resize the width of a window 
when it's shaded, and that makes sense too. There may be a way to do it in 
Metacity, but if there is, it's hidden. There's a GUI to reorganize the 
window buttons in Beryl, and although it's not as intuitive as KDE's (not 
that KDE is perfect either), it's good to have.
